My Process for New Artwork

I am having a blast creating my new works of art.  When I started my creative journey, I began as a photographer, then I moved into acrylic painting and then oils. I really love any creative medium, including markers and pastels.

My work begins with a photograph as I create a digital studies using conceptual drafts. In this stage I am modifying, selecting, and combining elements until the image reveals the vision I’m aiming for. Only then do I translate the concept into an underpainting. This process lets me move between experimentation and intention. The act of painting and layering is grounding the work in texture including cold wax, and oil impasto to explore how light, texture, and memory connect. It’s a way of painting that invites imperfection and creativity. Art tools are always changing and mine are between digital exploration and traditional paint.

Cold wax allows me to build depth; thick oil brushstrokes bring movement and feeling. My work is a conversation between what I see and what I feel. I hope each piece invites others to pause and reflect. My art is about giving thanks for the community I live in, my family, nature, our history and this moment in time.

For the past 5 years I have been trying my hand with oil painting, as I believe it to be forgiving and flexible. For me, the excitement is in the experimentation. I would love to hear what you think about the new images?
